A Breath of Prayer

This poem came to me during a very difficult time in my life. I was struggling with how to live life with my new chronic health issues. One of those issues is moments of having difficulty breathing. One day, I decided to watch and listen to the beach on my TV through YouTube. I do not live near a beach so this was the only option I could think of at the time. As I was listening and watching the waves crash on the beach, I heard the words from this poem so clearly and peacefully. It was like God was walking me through each breath I was taking. Now, when I have difficulty breathing I remember these words and know God is with me.

I breathe in and out.

Breathe like you have never breathed before.

Awww… that was a good one.

I needed that deep breath today.

Do you see the waves over there?

I do, they are the breath of the earth.

Listen to them crash with excitement onto the shore.

They push themselves onto the sand with no fear.

Then recede to the peaceful movements of the ocean.

Each waves takes their turn washing the coast.

There is no pain or struggle, just a task to complete.

To be the breath of the earth.

In and out, in and out.

God, “yes.” I want to be that wave with no fear.

You will be.
